Post Operative Instructions for Nail Procedures

Ingrown Toenail Removal

Make sure to take your antibiotic if you were prescribed one.  Tonight remove your dressing gently and start with a warm, soapy water or epsom salt soak for about 10 minutes.  Afterwards, dry your foot and toe well.  Use triple antibiotic ointment or neosporin and a bandaid to cover the area.  Tomorrow perform these soaks / bandaid changes twice a day (once in the AM and once in the evening). Make sure to keep the area covered and clean throughout the day.  Continue these soaks twice a day for the next 7 days.

Keep your scheduled post op visit with out office, even if your toe is looking and feeling better : )

Phenol Matrixectomy

If you had a phenol procedure to your toenail, be sure to follow these post op instructions.

Remember, this procedure may cause your toe to ooze from the acid, as the acid causes a burn and burns like to ooze as they heal.  It is very important to perform twice a day soaks in warm soapy or epsom salt water for 10 minutes each time.  Dry your toe well and use neosporin or triple antibiotic cream to the area and a bandaid.

*Remember if your surgical site continues to drain, you need to continue twice a day soaks!  This can continue for 2-4 weeks after the procedure.

Surgical Excision of Root/Matrix Cells

If you had a surgical excision of your nail matrix cells, keep your dressing clean and dry.  Do not remove your dressing until instructed by your doctor.

If you are having any pain after this procedure, use Motrin or Tylenol as instructed.
